FESTIVAL SUSPENDED
AN INEVITABLE UPDATE REGARDING COVID-19
To literally no one's surprise, we have put the festival on hold. Like so many other theaters and entertainment venues, our programing for 2020 has been suspended due to the recent evolution of COVID-19.
When we announced the creation of the festival in 2019, we thought we'd be lucky if we received 20 submissions. We had no idea that we would receive nearly 1,000 — all of them written by, for, and about the LGBTQ+ community.
Queer art matters. Our voices, our stories, our experiences — they all matter. And our team is passionate about providing a platform where they can thrive.
We're not going anywhere. We're here. We're working. We're taking this time to regroup, think tank, innovate, and find new ways to push our industry forward.
The world will bounce back from COVID-19.
And we'll still be here when it does. Standing ready.
Rock on,
THE COMMONS
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Los Angeles Queer New Works Festival will give voice to twenty new works by LGBTQ+ artists over the course of 2020. The Commons is dedicated to producing urgent, artist-driven works that push the boundaries of modern storytelling. We believe in creating work that challenges our artists, our audiences and our industry.
